The device in the image above looks more like a mini periscope, a hand-shower or may be an inhaler, but actually it is the much rumored action camera from HTC called RE.

RE is a small handheld camera that allows you to capture and fully experience every moment, through video and photography, without the hassle and awkwardness of grabbing your phone or camera and missing the moment because you were too busy capturing it. RE is designed to help you step out from behind the camera, experience the moment and capture it at the same time.

Like other action cameras, RE has an extremely minimalist design. The camera curves allows you to easily hold it and its feels like you’re holding some kind of weapon. It is made of sturdy plastic and protected against water, so you can easily use it in rain or take it under water. Keep in mind that waterproof ability lasts for 30 minutes under 1 meter.

There are two physical buttons on the camera, one on the front and one on the back and a pair of indicator LEDs along with microUSB port and microSD card slot. Pressing the shutter button on the back takes a photo while press and hold starts the video recording. Press the button on the front of the camera to activate slow motion mode. The camera communicates through beeps to indicate when recording, switching modes, or taking a photo ─ good news is that there is also a silent mode.

RE features a 16MP CMOS sensor, 1080p video recording, 146 degree wide-angle lens and slow-motion and time lapse recording. It is packed with a 820mAh non-removable battery, which is good for 100 minutes continuous recording or 1200 still shots. There is no viewfinder, but you can pair it with your smartphone by using the RE app, available for iOS and Android. This app also allows you to quickly view and transfer images and video to your mobile phone.

The RE will be available for $200 in white, blue, orange, and teal color, starting from next month with US and international markets to follow soon. This device also comes with a set of accessories including mounts, extra battery and water protection covers.
